Introduction to Civil Engineering

 

The main goal of civil engineering is to provide and maintain a safe, functional, and comfortable environment for everyone living or working in it. As an engineering discipline, it attempts to find the best way to perform specific work without interfering with other operations of the environment. The aim of civil engineering is to use science to improve the human environment and often provides solutions to complex problems facing mankind in this age of rapid scientific progress. Amongst the disciplines and methods used by civil engineers, four stand out: Historically and currently, civil engineers have used a variety of modeling methods to provide them with the basis on which to evaluate and plan the solution to their projects.

In 2015, the worldwide market for civil engineering was worth around $1.92 billion and was expected to grow to $2.06 billion by 2024, increasing at a rate of 7.96% per year, which equates to a compound annual growth rate of 4.14%. The growth in this industry can be explained by the fact that there are many industries that require civil engineering to function; such as construction and agriculture. Examples of industries that require civil engineering in some way are mining, utility, and telecommunication, which all need water and fuel, civil and power engineering, which is used for the construction of large dams, and chemical and petrochemical engineering which is used in the manufacture of chemicals and petrochemicals.

Construction Management Engineering is an enterprise that covers all the elements of creating, constructing, or maintaining buildings, public infrastructure and/or utilities, and industrial plants. All of the components of this study come under one overarching umbrella called Construction Management Engineering, and the skills required to practice are broadly categorized into Building Engineering and Industrial Engineering.
